Who is
Marissa K Stubbs?
Transforming mental healthcare
I am a licensed psychologist with a passion for supporting individuals on their path to mental wellness. Born in The Bahamas to a Bahamian father and Jamaican mother, I carry a unique perspective nurtured by a rich Afro-Caribbean heritage. I am deeply committed to breaking down the stigma around mental health in the Caribbean and increasing accessibility to much-needed psychological support.
My journey in the field of psychology began with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of the Bahamas, followed by a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of the West Indies (Mona). Supplementing these degrees, I have undergone specific training in trauma-informed therapies such as DBT, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems, enriching my repertoire of techniques to better serve my clients.
With over seven years of experience, I've had the privilege of assisting clients from various parts of the Caribbean who are struggling with trauma, depression, and anxiety. I recognize that there's a pervasive culture of "suffering in silence," and my mission is to cultivate a safe, nurturing environment that fosters open dialogue, mutual trust, and healing.
My therapeutic approach is eclectic, rooted in continual learning and adaptation. I regularly participate in continuing education courses and training, always seeking ways to infuse culturally appropriate practices into my work. My primary goal is not to offer a one-size-fits-all solution, but to tailor the treatment process to the unique needs of each client.

A modern approach
My primary area of interest lies in understanding trauma and how it often manifests as anxiety and depression. I am deeply invested in empowering clients to tap into their potential, challenge the narratives holding them back, and acquire the tools needed to lead fulfilling lives.
Outside of my professional life, I am a passionate creative. I love painting, crocheting, and making candles. When I’m not creating I’m enjoying music, spending time on the beach, gardening, and liming with family and friends.
I am a proud member of the Bahamas Psychological Association, Jamaican Psychological Society, British Psychological Society, and American Psychological Association. My affiliation with these professional organizations keeps me connected with the global community of mental health professionals and up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field.
